Finding Peace in God – (Day 20)

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)

Peace is a profound gift that we receive from God, transcending our understanding and circumstances. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us to turn our anxieties into prayers, and in exchange, we receive God’s peace, which guards our hearts and minds.

In Hebrew, the word for peace is “Shalom” (שָׁלוֹם). The concept of Shalom is rich and multidimensional, encompassing more than just the absence of conflict. Shalom also refers to a state of wholeness. It implies that everything is in its proper place and functioning harmoniously. Shalom is frequently used to denote a state of divine blessing and favor. For instance, in Numbers 6:24-26, the priestly blessing includes: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you shalom, peace (שָׁלוֹם).”

Finding peace in God involves placing our trust in Him and focusing our minds on His promises. It means choosing to let go of our anxieties and to rest in the assurance that God is in control. By meditating on His Word and seeking His presence, we invite His peace to rule in our hearts.

Consider areas of your life where you are struggling with anxiety or unrest. Are there specific worries or fears that are consuming your thoughts? God invites us to bring these concerns to Him in prayer, coupled with thanksgiving. By doing so, we allow His peace to envelop us, offering a sense of calm that surpasses our human understanding.

As you seek God’s peace, practice letting go of worries and embracing trust. Engage in activities that bring you closer to God, such as prayer, worship, or reading Scripture. Allow His peace to fill you and to flow through you, influencing how you approach challenges and interact with others.

Prayer:

Lord, I thank You for the gift of Your peace, which surpasses all understanding. Help me to bring my anxieties and worries before You, trusting in Your ability to handle every concern. Fill me with Your peace and let it guard my heart and mind. Teach me to focus on Your promises and to rest in the assurance of Your presence. May Your peace rule in my heart and overflow into my interactions with others. Thank You for being the source of true peace and for calming my troubled spirit. Amen.

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”
  • Romans 15:13 (NKJV)
